“Amazing Place”

Villa Nettuno

Sep 29, 2008

This is a great place to stay in Positano. The location is wonderful as it is halfway up the hill so there are stunning views from every room. The owner of the hotel is lovely and was always there to direct us to a good spot to eat or give us transport advice. The rooms were perfect: for 90 euros a night we had a basic but large room, amazing view, private balcony, little fridge stocked with water, air-conditioning, large bathroom, hot water showers and towels. I would definately stay there again and hope one day we can return. We actually preferred the second little beach that was quieter- you can rent a chair and umbrella or sit on the gorund (the south end is best).
Villa Nettuno is a real gem of a place to stay! Enjoy your visit.

Claudio, the owner, is friendly and incredibly helpful. You pass the door to his family apartment daily and his loved ones offer a heartfelt greeting, an umbrella or a bottle opener if you are without.

The room we stayed in was huge; by far the largest we stayed at in Italy. (Room #27 from memory with the bougainvillea under its terrace) Enough room for the large bed, a sofa, a desk, a wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and hangers, a chest of drawers, a mini bar fridge and still plenty of floor space to spare.

As you open the door you are drawn to the stunning view from the little terrace with two chairs. A small table on wheels was perfect for use on the deck spread out with wine and supplies from the supermarket nearby. A perfect spot for reading and daydreaming. A line strung across to hang laundry which dried in a flash.

The ensuite bathroom was very large; with a shower over the bath. There is no shower curtain but it wasn’t an issue. The room is serviced daily, with fresh towels and soap, plastic drinking cups. The décor is dated but somehow adds to the charm of the villa.

We ate at Bruno’s twice. Great value, no coperta or cover charge in June, and Fornillo (don’t recall the full name ask Claudio) where you can eat in or take away pizza to have on your terrace. For lunch you can buy a delicious huge crusty roll filled with ham, mozzarella, tomato basil and olive oil from the small shop on the right halfway down the stairs from the Duomo in front of the Tourist Information Centre. Ask the Gentleman to make it for you and enjoy by the water, or then again, from your terrace!

The only negative was the uncomfortable old mattresses (pushed together). Even so, this did not significantly impact our impression and we rate this highly for the location, hospitality, room size and views. If you want a modern room with breakfast included and expect a very comfy bed this may not be for you.

If you want close proximity to everything Positano has to offer without the frills and the expensive bed this will suit you to a T.

I recently returned from a week at Villa Nettuno - really lovely, no complaints at all! Cleaned daily, comfy bed, decent bathroom - great all round!

The room was a decent size, with a wardrobe and small fridge, the view from our balcony onto the sea was gorgeous!

The owner and his nephew Antonio are v helpful and chatty, offering recommendations for local restaurants! Visit Cova del Sarcenci on the waterfront - mention that you're staying at Nettuno and you get a discount! Gorgeous food too! Have the choc souffle!

this hotel was reffered to us by friends

We stayed on the upper level (only 2 levels). The rooms have 1960s furnature but are extreamly clean and large. All the top floor has balconies that look over positano (maybe the best view i have seen there). i would recommend the upper rooms than the ground florr rooms, they both have views, but you dont have as much privacy, as level 1 share a walkway/balcony.
owner is extreamly helpful and can tell you were to eat and go on tours.

Some tips.

* Walk up the hill (right)about 300m (near grocery store) for great food a few euros cheaper than the town.
* Ask owner about the locals shop (down the hill at the square) where you can get HOT coffee and breakfast for cheap! Cafe Positano (downstairs) is very overpriced and commercialised.
* Also ask him how to get to the beach on the right. its a small beach where the lounge beds are €5 for the day (main beach is $10-15 per day) You can go to the main beach and walk right, along the cliff to the little beach
* there are stairs next to Cafe Positano which is a shortcut to the main area on the main beach.

Remember Positano is Stairs Stairs Stairs, and this hotel has 3 flights to get to the front door, then 4 flights to get to the second level, but well worth the hike!

“Charming Villa with the best outlook”

Villa Nettuno

Villa Nettuno is a wonderful and spacious guesthouse with some of the best views in Positano. The rooms on the lower floor are older but extremely large and charming and have a balcony the size of most guesthouses. the view takes in some of the most breathtaking mountains you will ever see.
The upper rooms are smaller but have been recently refurbished. The hosts speak english and are very helpful with bus, ferry and train times. Nearby is the Cafe Positano with the best views you will get for dinner. It is away from the street noises and overlooks the church also. Well worth the stay if you like a villa that has a great and authentic atmosphere to it.
